About Me

Leandra Echols was born on March 4, 1990 in Memphis, Tenn. At the age of two, she moved to Jackson, Tenn. and there was raised to the age of 21. Echols began her schooling at her first church, St. Paul C.M.E.

After graduating from St. Paul she attended Andrew Jackson Elementary School from K-three. Here is where she discovered her creative side. In first grade, she won first place out of the state of Tennessee for writing and illustrating her own book for the Reading Rainbow Contest. In third grade, she participated in the Reading Rainbow Contest again, and won second place.

Then, Echols moved to another part of Jackson causing her to transfer to a different school. In fourth and fifth grade, she attended East Elementary School. Being the new kid, she was no stranger when it came to making friends. Throughout elementary school she was either on the principal’s list or honor roll.

After graduating elementary school, she became a student at Northeast Middle School. Echols was active throughout middle. She took tap and ballet for a short period of time, but remained in church dance as a praise dancer for some years. Echols kept her creative talent landing her illustrations in several newspapers. Even a poem she wrote made it in the paper. She did several voting commercials on Jackson’s local TV and radio stations.

Graduating from middle school, Echols attended Madison Academic High School. While in high school, she was on the speech team for a year and took piano for two years. Echols then started working as a hostess at Corky’s Ribs and BBQ. In the 12 grade, she started working at Red Robin for three years as a hostess and waitress.

Right after graduating high school in 2008, she paid her own way through college receiving her associate’s degree at Jackson State Community College.  Echols took a semester break from college to build her money up working at Red Robin and the Jackson Country Club as a waitress.

In 2011, Echols transferred as a junior to Middle Tennessee State University and is now majoring in visual communication.
